4 Business Books That Inspired Me

reading

I started becoming interested in entrepreneurship when I was around 12. Books have been a major source of growth and inspiration on my journey as an entrepreneur since then.

I’m sharing a few books in hopes they will be as useful to you as they were to me.

Million Dollar Habits

brian tracy million dollar habits

by Brian Tracy

The title of this book is cheesy but it’s one of the first business books I read as a teenager.

A girl I was dating in high school gifted it to me. Her father was a successful entrepreneur in Silicon Valley and I would ask her questions about how he built his business. She was always generous with information and one day she showed up with this book – emphasizing her Dad’s love for it.

Million Dollar Habits focuses on the often overlooked mental and emotional side of becoming successful. The writing style is motivational and the topics helped me become more self-aware.

Success Is For You

by David R. Hawkins

Dr. Hawkins’ work has had a profound impact on my life. I become emotional when I reflect on the insight I’ve been fortunate to receive from his work.

Success Is For you is just as insightful as his other books, which are mainly about spirituality. He has an uncanny ability to help you look at every aspect of business and success from new angles.

I revisit this book often.

The Dip

by Seth Godin

I’ve thought about quitting more times than I can count. “How do you know when to quit?” has always been a question I wondered about until I found this book.

Seth Godin is another author who has a knack for helping you view life from a different angle. You can’t read one of his books (or blog posts) and not have a shift in perspective.

Here’s a quote from The Dip that I like:

The Dip is the long stretch between beginner’s luck and real accomplishment. The Dip is the set of artificial screens set up to keep people like you out.

Built to Last

by Jim Collins and Jerry I. Porras

This is another book I read as a teenager.

It provided a mental barometer for how I view businesses.

The authors compare companies in the same niche and contrast what makes one a visionary company and the other mediocre.

Must-read for every entrepreneur.
