The Basics of Page Authority

Page Authority (“PA”) is an SEO score developed by Moz, a company that builds SEO and marketing tools. Your website’s Page Authority score ranges from 0-100. Utilizing a machine learning algorithm, Page Authority predicts how well your website will rank on search engines.

Page Authority is similar to Domain Authority, except that it is used to assess the strength of individual pages on a website, whereas Domain Authority is used to assess the strength of an entire website (or subdomain).

How is Page Authority Calculated?

Moz uses over 40 different factors to calculate your Page Authority.

A few factors are:

The algorithm constantly updates with new information, which can lead to changes in your web page’s score.

What Does a Specific Page Authority Score Mean?

A low Page Authority score does not mean that your web page is incorrectly optimized for search engines. If one of your web pages scores is higher than another, it could mean that the page has more useful inbound/outbound links.

The scoring system is relative, which means that any score can be good or bad compared to other pages’ scores.

Page Authority works best when used as a comparative system.

Increasing Your Page Authority Score

Page Authority takes into account several factors. Don’t change a specific element in order to influence your score.

The most effective method to increase Page Authority is improving your link building.

Your links can be internal (coming from other pages of your website), or external (coming from other websites).

Page Authority is not an absolute measure of your pages’ worth. It is a useful tool for website owners who want to check the likelihood of how they will rank on search engines.

Alternatively, comparing one pages’ score to another can be used to determine why your Page Authority might be dropping.
